Logistics and Permitting Officer

The Logistics and Permitting Officer will support vessel scheduling/planning activities and act as a key liaison between the management team, vessel crew and an array of stakeholders (e.g., science / media partners). The individual will be part of an existing team which combines our Science Program, Media Production (in partnership with Alucia Productions, LLC) and Marine Operations. The position will report to the Mission Program Manager.

The Logistics and Permitting Officer will be responsible for development and ownership of the vessel schedule, working closely with the Marine Operations teams to optimize vessel usage. Additionally, the individual will be the primary point of contact between Mission Leads and the vessel, assisting with all mission logistics, including permitting and equipment shipment. S/he will be the “go to” person for vessel related matters during the end-to-end mission process, with some travel expected.

The position will require a highly organized approach to the management of several simultaneous projects and will call for excellent communication and relationship management skills. The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional with an established network in this field. Experience in vessel operations and understanding of oceanographic research or oceanographic equipment would be advantageous.

The Logistics and Permitting Officer will ensure that missions are planned and executed in an excellent way by:

  • Supporting all aspects of the vessel mission process from planning through to execution.

  • Developing and maintaining the vessel schedule, liaising with the Marine Operations team.

  • Supporting mission-related budgeting and legal efforts.

  • Identifying permitting requirements and liaising with relevant agents and governing bodies to secure vessel, science, media and other permits, as required.

  • Coordinating, guiding, and tracking vessel logistics (travel requirements, equipment shipment, etc.) across the stakeholder group.

  • Providing on the ground support for vessel team during mission mobilization and demobilization.

  • Contributing to post-mission activities (reporting, financial reconciliation).

The ideal professional qualifications and personal attributes the Logistics and Permitting Officer should possess are the following:

Professional Experience:

  • Approximately 5 years of experience in a similar organization or domain, including field experience in marine science or oceanographic expeditions.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and run complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and networking skills.

The Logistics and Permitting Officer is based in Westport, CT, will work regularly from New York, and travel via Dalio ocean vessels as required.
