Dan Sherman has worked for the past twenty years in the nonprofit sector, and as an executive search consultant for leading national nonprofit and philanthropic institutions. Having served as Vice President of one of Washington’s leading executive search firms, in 1999 Dan launched Explore Company. His additional experience includes working with organizations and individuals on strategic planning, facilitation and other operational issues related to the effective and efficient functioning of an organization.
For the past ten years Dan has served as Executive Director of The Workshop Unlimited, Inc. a California-based nonprofit organization. Underwritten by grants from The Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and the Bank of America, The Workshop seeks out models of excellence in nonprofit enterprise that advance the vitality of individuals at all levels of the organization. One of the key projects Mr. Sherman has led is the development and production of a book on organizational change efforts by groups involved in environmental and social issues entitled, “A View from Within: A Practical Guide to Personal Vitality and Nonprofit Management.”
Dan’s career supporting nonprofit enterprise dates back to his
early work as Assistant to the Vice President with the Aspen
Institute for Humanistic Studies. In this capacity, Dan served as
the project director of two major programs: FORUM: USA, a joint
program with the United Way of America led by the Honorable John W.
Gardner; and Governance in the Western Hemisphere, an Organization
